Project Asssignments

NOTE: All projects below require preliminary research and thumbnail design development before starting the electronic design process.


Project 1 - Homage Piece

Description/Objectives:

Learn about and research some great graphic design professionals  Create a homage piece for any of the artists featured on the blog home page for the past few years; or other famous graphic designer with instructor approval.

Specifications: 

Size: 10"x 10"
Software: Use Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop, or a combination of all three.
Elements Needed: 1- Title - artists name, 2-Image-Graphics - artist style, and 3. Copy - blurb about the artist. Use simple grid (1 or 2 column grid) with margin (at least 1/2 inch or more).

Project 2 - Typography Spread

Description/Objectives:
Create and two page spread using InDesign. Review of page set-up, design grid construction and simple typesetting strategies and techniques; to include importing of text and graphics using InDesign.

Specifications: 

Page size: 8.5" x 11"

Use text and content from the Typography blog. See examples for the student work posted on the home page.


Project 3 - Menu

Description/Objectives:

Create a multiple page menu in InDesign. Use of simple grid to layout and format a clean, simple consistent, typographical hierarchy. Advanced page set up features will be explored, to include the creation and use of stylesheets.

Specifications: 

4 Pages - Size: 8.5" x 11"

or

2 Page Trifold - Page Size: 11" x 17"
Software: Use InDesign for menu design and production; possible use of Illustrator for the logo design and/or graphics as well as the possible use of Photoshop for an images or background.

Additional Notes:

Cover Page - logo, and contact info: phone and or web address 
Inside Spread - Menu Items will include: Food Categories, Food Item, Descriptions and Pricing
Back Page - About the restaurant blurb and address/contact Information; or continued menu items followed by restaurant logo and contact information.

Project 4 - Travel Brochure

Description/Objectives:

Create an 8 or 12 page travel brochure using InDesign. Use grid to layout and format copy elements and images. Good photo selection is essential to success; to include image acquisition throughout various online sources; to be be discussed in class. Advanced page set up features will be explored, to include the use of masterpages and other multiple page features for brochure and page design and production.

Specifications: 

8 - 12 Pages - Size: 8.5" x 11" in a Horizontal or Vertical Format
Software: Use InDesign for design and production; Possible use of Illustrator for the logos/graphics and map of your destination. Use Photoshop to optimize and retouch photographic images and background graphics.

Additional Notes:

Cover Page (Destination Name or Logo and contact info: phone and or web address); 
Inside Spreads (Destination content such as copy and image about; history, geography, sites, culture, and cuisine)
- Page Headers
- Images/graphics
- Copy
- Page number and other footer elements such as 800 number, web address or other call to action.
Back Page: Image, Call to action, Address and other contact Information.
